With and Without Guard Locking

EUCHNER safety switches monitor safety doors on machines and installations, helping to minimize dangers and risks and thereby reliably protecting people and processes. EUCHNER defines future-oriented safety technology with high quality standards and reliable technology.

Safety switches have the task of preventing the operation of a machine in the case of a potential hazard. This task is defined in EN ISO 14119 (Safety of machinery. Interlocking devices associated with guards. Principles for design and selection). For this purpose the safety circuit must be opened by the safety switch. Safety switches are therefore key elements of an interlocking device.

In this context, an interlocking device can interrupt machine operation when a safety door is open, preventing unintentional starting when a hazard is present. In relation to movable guards this means that if safety doors or safety flaps are open, the machine or system cannot be operated if the machine or system can produce a hazard. For this reason, the safety switch for a guard must be attached such that a malfunction is excluded. Safety switches must also not be tampered with or bypassed. An important feature of a safety switch is at least one NC contact that is operated positively. The switching contacts are separated positively when the guard is open.

Safety Switches Without Guard Locking

These switches monitor the safety circuit when a guard is opened, helping prevent machine operation while the guard is open. Unlike guard-locking switches, they do not mechanically lock the guard in place. EUCHNER divides this product group into plastic and metal housing options.

Plastic Housing Models:

  • NM / NM.VZ: Small switches featuring a large selection of customizable actuating heads (roller plunger, rounded plunger, roller arm, lever arm, and hinged actuator) adjustable in four approach directions.

  • NQ: A small, flat, ultra-compact switch (30 x 15 x 78 mm) built for very tight spaces on small machinery like packaging systems.

  • NP / NPU / NMU: Compact plastic designs offering high flexibility for general automation.

  • GP / SGP: Standard plastic switches with the SGP variant featuring a rugged metal switch head.

Metal Housing Models:

  • SGA: A robust full-metal counterpart to the STA safety switch with guard locking, sharing the same drilling pattern and actuator design for heavy-duty applications.

  • NX: A durable metal switch designed to match the TX series with guard locking, supporting up to four switching contacts and optional AS-Interface connectivity.

  • NZ.VZ / N1A / NB01: Heavy-duty position and limit switches engineered for harsh industrial environments.

Safety Switches With Guard Locking

These switches combine safety monitoring with guard locking, preventing access to a hazardous area while dangerous machine movement or other hazards are present. EUCHNER offers guard-locking solutions in a variety of designs, including compact switches, heavy-duty metal-housing models, and modular multifunctional systems.

Plastic Housing Models:

  • CTP: Compact transponder-coded safety switches with guard locking. They provide high coding levels, integrated door monitoring, and a robust design for demanding machine-guarding applications.

  • CTP-I / CTP-AR: Versions offering different monitoring and connection configurations, including options for series connection and integration into safety systems.

  • MGB / MGB2: Multifunctional Gate Boxes that combine guard locking, door monitoring, handles, emergency-stop functions, and other controls into a single system. The MGB2 Modular allows the functions and control elements to be configured to suit the application.

  • MGBS: A compact guard-locking solution designed for applications where a smaller form factor is preferred.

Metal Housing Models:

  • STA / STP: Heavy-duty safety switches with guard locking for applications requiring a rugged metal housing. Available with different actuator configurations, with the STP series providing a higher holding force.

  • NZ.VZ: Electromechanical guard-locking switches with a robust metal housing and multiple solenoid-voltage options. They are suitable for applications requiring dependable mechanical guard locking.

  • TX: Heavy-duty safety switches with guard locking designed for harsh industrial environments and available with a variety of actuator and switching configurations.

Power-Flo Technologies is proud to partner with EUCHNER as they develop and manufacture products and solutions tailored to the requirements of customers from a wide range of sectors. Selecting the right safety switch is an important part of creating an effective machine-guarding solution. Whether an application requires a switch without guard locking or a solution that combines safety monitoring with mechanical guard locking, EUCHNER offers a wide range of options to meet different machine designs, operating conditions, and safety requirements. With choices ranging from compact plastic switches to heavy-duty metal models and multifunctional gate systems, EUCHNER safety switches provide reliable solutions for protecting people and supporting safe machine operation.
